TESTED & TRUSTED

We test our repellent incense at New Mexico State University's Molecular Vector Physiology Lab. But what does “tested" really mean? It means that we don’t hesitate to get in the weeds—or in this case, a cage—until we get the results you deserve.

During our studies, the NMSU team traces mosquito movement either to or from a human volunteer on the Murphy's Team. As olfactory-motivated creatures, mosquitoes move away from scents they don't like, such as our incense. The most recent study concluded that our mosquito repellent incense sticks successfully decreased human attractiveness (aka, the likelihood you'll get bitten).

FAQs

What's with the new look? Are my old incense sticks the same as the new ones?

At Murphy's HQ, we are constantly asking ourselves how we can do even more good for the outdoors.

For our incense sticks, that meant removing unnecessary food dyes, plastic, and silica gel.

Other than removing the green food dye you can rest assured that these are the same great Murphy’s Naturals Incense Sticks your family is accustomed to!

My Incense sticks got wet, what now?

It is necessary to store your incense sticks in a cool dry place to avoid any moisture contact. If moisture penetrates the incense stick we suggest drying out the incense stick completely (we suggest laying them in direct sunlight).

We cannot replace incense sticks due to moisture content after opening.

How do I light my incense stick?

Hold the stick down at an angle into the flame. Allow the stick to catch fire and burn for 15-20 seconds then blow out flame. Place the stick into an incense holder or flowerpot filled with sand. Then, kick back and relax!

How do I extinguish my incense stick?

Place the tip of your incense stick in dirt, sand or water until extinguished. If you would like to reuse the stick do not use water, use dry dirt or sand. Any moisture will hinder future uses. Store in a dry cool place for the next use.

How do I store my incense sticks?

Please keep in a dry cool place. It is recommended that you store your incense sticks in their cardboard tube away from moisture.

Can I burn these indoors?

While our products are great at keeping mosquitoes away while you’re outdoors, the concentrated blend makes this incense appropriate for outdoor use only.

They’re better than others

I have purchased these mosquito repellent incense sticks previously and since the blood suckers are SO much worse this year, I came back more. I find them to be a bit of a challenge to ignite and once lit they stay lit for about 2 hours, which allows me to sneak outside without being totally covered with bites for a short period. They’re a little over a dollar a stick, which gets pricey for a senior who relies on disability income and I have had to resort to additional tactical interventions to kill the larvae. Unfortunately, my neighbors leave trash receptacles uncovered allowing rain water to accumulate in their cans. The mosquitoes know NO boundaries; however.

Best Yet

I have ordered these in the past and still ordering these sticks because they are the best for me. They last just as stated on the site. You can let it burn with the holder that’s also available and not worry about the ashes. I just sit it on my patio and mosquitos be gone!

Magic Wand of Insect repellent

Discovered these incense sticks in the summer of 2020 -- you know, when we could only truly hang out with people OUT SIDE and SPACED APART? We live in Georgia near a creek. To say the mosquitos are out is an understatement. And good gosh do they LOVE me. Tried citronella candles, citronella oil lamps, bathing in insect repellent -- ALL of the above simultaneously -- until I found these sticks. Light them. Forget about them. Relax and remain unbitten. We used them for our outdoor wedding, too. With nearly 70 people in attendance on a muggy September evening. Worked like magic.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re sorry to hear that your recent experience with our incense sticks did not meet your expectations. We want to assure you that the formula remains unchanged from previous versions, and the only modification was removing the green dye to keep our products as natural and eco-friendly as possible. Regarding the burning issue, incense sticks can sometimes vary slightly in how they ignite and burn depending on factors like humidity and storage conditions. To help, we recommend ensuring the sticks are kept dry and lighting them carefully to get the best performance. We appreciate your loyalty and your keen eye for detail. If you continue to experience issues or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer care team at info@murphysnaturals.com. We’d love the opportunity to assist you and ensure you have a positive experience with our products.

Giant Sticks, Burn Well, Seem to Help

Okay I really liked the discontinued incense cones, this is the first time I have used the sticks. For starters they are *huge* -- really tall and quite thick, and they won't work in a standard incense stick holder. Since I haven't yet ordered their holder for them, I had to jerry-rig something (a jar filled with shells...) to hold one up. On the up-side, they burn well, they aren't too smokey, the scent is pleasant and not overwhelming and they seem to help. On the downside, the ash spilled out all over the place and there was quite a bit of it. I put a plate under the improvised holder the second time I used one, and that caught some of the ash but not all -- so hoping their actual container catches more of the ash! Otherwise a good product and helpful.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great scent. One isn’t strong enough

I bought this and I absolutely love the products scent.. and what it’s made of. I trust the medicinal uses of these plants. But the incense do not work. Maybe if you burn more than one? I am sitting in my backyard just after sunset and the mosquitoes are biting. Unfortunately. Even the bats are feasting in my backyard.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Thank you so much for your feedback and for your positive comments about the scent and ingredients of our incense sticks. We’re delighted that you value our commitment to natural, plant-based protection. We’re sorry our incense didn’t fully prevent mosquito bites during your time outdoors. Mosquito activity can be intense after sunset, and factors like wind sometimes lessen the effectiveness of any one repellent method. For enhanced protection, we recommend combining our incense sticks with a topical repellent, such as our Lemon Eucalyptus Oil Mosquito Repellent Spray. Using both methods together can help create a stronger barrier and offer more complete coverage for enjoying your backyard.

This stuff really works!

I discovered these sticks when they were clearanced out at target several years ago and fell in love with them because they actually work and they smell amazing! They work for those little black bugs that bite as well as flies and mosquitoes! These are a summer staple for me now! I don’t think the candles work as well as the incense sticks and cones do. The sticks are great because you can stick them in the ground or anywhere around you. I have never tried their topical products so cannot comment on those.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Thank you!

I can finally enjoy an evening on our deck without being eaten alive or covered in toxic chemicals. The incenses sticks are long lasting with a pleasant scent. The little cones are great if you’re only going to be outside for 20 minutes or so.
