# WE ARE A CERTIFIED B CORP

## A FORCE FOR GOOD

In 2015, Murphy's Naturals earned certification as a B Corporation, an acknowledgment of the company’s commitment to social and environmental ethics, transparency and accountability. There are over 9,000 around the globe with 1 unifying goal – to redefine success in business.

**What Are B Corporations?**
B Corporations are companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. This is a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.

## IMPACT AREA PILLARS

Every B Corp is scored using the 5 impact areas in the B Impact Assessment.

1. **Workers**: How we're taking care of our workers, improving their lives and wellbeing
2. **Environment**: How we're prioritizing and taking care of the planet
3. **Customers**: How we're having a positive impact in our customers lives
4. **Community**: How we're giving back and contributing positively to our community
5. **Governance**: How do we make sure our governance considers all stakeholders

## WHY ARE B CORPS IMPORTANT?

B Corps are important because they inspire all businesses to compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world. The B stands for "Benefit" and B Corp certification is to sustainable business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee, USDA Organic certification is to milk, or LEED certification for the whole business, not just for a building. The performance standards are comprehensive and transparent. They measure a company’s impact on all its stakeholders (e.g. workers, suppliers, community, and the environment).

## HOW DID MURPHY'S BECOME A B CORP?

To become a Certified B Corp, Murphy's Naturals took part in a rigorous assessment conducted by B Lab, which certifies and supports B Corporations.

B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service; it assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it. And increasingly that’s what people care most about.

Certified B Corporations achieve a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment—a rigorous assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, customers, community, and environment—and make their B Impact Report transparent on bcorporation.net. Certified B Corporations also amend their legal governing documents to require their board of directors to balance profit and purpose.

The combination of third-party validation, public transparency, and legal accountability help Certified B Corps build trust and value. B Corp Certification is administered by the non-profit B Lab.
